FINANCIAL LITERACY AND NUTRITION PROGRAM

PARC’s summer program is an intensive four day training program for youth 16+ who are beginning the process of transitioning out of care.  The purpose of the program is to prepare youth for their successful transition to independence by building their financial literacy knowledge and cooking for independence skills.

Youth who participate in the program will develop the skills to set and achieve financial goals as well as have the confidence to make informed choices and respond effectively to their evolving financial circumstances. Youth will learn the fundamental principles of money management including how to appropriately use credit, credit cards and loans, on-line banking and shopping, how to choose and utilize the right bank account, as well as instruction on saving their money and building their credit rating.

Participants will also have the opportunity to develop their culinary skills by learning a variety of ways to make economical and healthy meals that fit their budget.  We will spend two half days attending PC Cooking School receiving instruction from an experienced chef who will teach us basic cooking skills and how to work safely in a kitchen.

Participants will receive $100.00 honorarium and a Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of the four day program.
